In a significant administrative move, Delhi's newly appointed Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, has terminated the services of all non-government staff appointed by the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration. This action affects officials and employees who were assigned to the offices of the former Chief Minister and cabinet ministers in various capacities. These individuals have been directed to return to their original departments, organizations, or boards.
This decision aligns with standard governmental procedures, which stipulate that personal staff appointments are co-terminus with the tenure of the appointing ministers. Such positions are automatically terminated when the appointing authority leaves office.
Addressing criticisms from opposition parties, Chief Minister Gupta highlighted the prolonged tenures of both the AAP and Congress in Delhi, stating, "The Congress ruled for 15 years and the AAP ruled for 13. Instead of looking at what they did, how can they raise questions on one day of ours?"
This development marks a decisive step by the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in reshaping the administrative framework of Delhi following their recent electoral victory.
